EFFECTS OF EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE ON THE QUALITY OF EDUCATIONAL STANDARD IN NIGERIA
Quality education as recommended by the National Policy on Education (2004) connotes not only the production of College or University graduate who can perform efficiently and effectively, but those who can function with the right type of values and attitudes for the survival of individuals and the society in general. Passing out from College or University does not The Kumbotso Teacher Educator July 2011 Edition Vol. 2 No. 2necessarily make quality education, it is rather up-rightness on the part of the products that sustain the individual and the society large. It is often said “The educational system cannot be above the quality of its teachers’.
Thus, the role of the teacher in quality of education in Nigeria cannot be over emphasized. This is so because it is the teachers that implement the educational policies and programmes of the nation. In line with this, the government stipulated in the National Policy on education that all teachers in the educational system from pre-primary to university levels will be professionally trained to deliver what is expected of them (NPE, 2004). From the foregoing, one cannot explain or boost of quality of education if teachers are not professionally trained; the absence of professional training can erode the quality of education.
