RECOMMENDATIONS

RECOMMENDATIONS

The following recommendations are proposed for enhancing the quality of education and arresting examination malpractice:

1. Teachers Registration Council (TRC) should cancel certificates of any teacher black listed for involvement in examination malpractice.

2. Schools found involved in examination malpractice should be DE-recognized as centers for public examinations for a period of five years while those officials such as examiners, The Kumbotso Teacher Educator July 2011 Edition Vol. 2 No. 2 supervisors and invigilators involved should be suspended in like with section 16 examination malpractice Act of 1999 Onyechere (2010).

3. The employers of blacklisted officials should take further, disciplinary action ranging from suspension to dismissal Onyechere (2010).

4. As earlier stated, only B.Ed, B.A.Ed, B.Sc. Ed, M.Ed and Ph.D in Education must be registered as qualified teachers and be recruited to teach. Any teacher that has not been registered by TRC, must not be allowed to teach in either public or private school.

5. Private schools must not be allowed to operate without fulfilling the requirements for opening and operating a school. For sub-standard private schools can help erode quality education. A leaf should be borrowed from Enugu state government that sealed off 83 sub-standard privates schools in the state, NAN (2011).

6. Teachers Registration Council (TRC) should organise workshops and conferences to sensitize and update teachers especially with regard to methodology. This can be undertaken two-three times in a year.

7. Examination malpractice Decree 20 of 1984 should be enforced to deal with defaulters; when enforce, it would serve as a deterrent.

8. Learner Centered approach and activity-based teaching should be adopted at all levels of our educational institutions because of its emphasis of learners’ activities and reduced dependency on teachers.
